I am convinced we must discover afresh the wonderful person of Jesus Christ. That on-going discovery is the key to revival, evangelism, church planting, discipleship, and maturity in the church. The beauty of Jesus Christ blinds us, as it did Saul of Tarsus, to the deceptive charm of things less valuable.
No angel in the sky, can fully bear that sight. But downward bends his burning eye, at mysteries so bright.
The sheer magnitude of His persona is the substance behind “Me” when He says, “Come to Me.” He is fully God, and He is fully human – the perfect, pure, and utterly unique fusion of divinity and humanity. He is both transcendent and practical. At His core He is love. In His character He is good. In His one, eternal person He elegantly blends affection, mercy, grace, and kindness with truth, holiness, justice, and power.
The spiritually dry soul does not need more of this world’s temporary satisfactions. The church longing for revival does not need more human wisdom on how to be a marketing success. We need a fresh revelation of the glory of Jesus Christ. We need the river of God’s Spirit to flood our hearts again, “resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself” (Col 2:2). If you’re dry or longing for revival, seek Him. Make it your ambition to unveil Him a little more each day. You won’t be disappointed.
Our journey continues tomorrow…
